Description
Child counseling uses the counsellor’s mind to establish an emotionally containing relationship in which the child’s own view of the world can be expressed through words and/or actions. The work of the counsellor is to find a way of carefully making this explicit to the child so that a shared insight into the child’s way of functioning is arrived at.
Counselling adolescents can be very useful in helping them to understand and support the experiences of adolescence and early adulthood. During this developmental phase earlier difficulties and traumas can be unexpectedly stirred up. Providing a framework for understanding these deeper levels of anxiety, can support the processes of individuation and personal growth.
The course aims to equip applicants wishing to work with children and adolescents with the knowledge and skills that they need to support them regain normality, process individuation and embrace personal growth.
At the end of every unit, the student/trainee will undergo assessments to gauge their understanding and readiness for each next unit. Also putting theory into practice is central to this field of work, therefore students are advised to implement skills and knowledge learnt in their work in an ethical manner.
